The City of Syracuse recognized its Taiwanese community with a flag raising ceremony outside City Hall on Friday, Oct 5, 2012.

Taiwanese community and local residents gathered waving their own flags as the Taiwanese flag was slowly raised into the city's skyline. Syracuse officials declared Friday as Republic of China Taiwan Community Recognition Day.

"Syracuse is a successful city because of our rich tradition of welcoming and growing immigrant communities and the Taiwanese community is an important part of that tradition," Mayor Stephanie Miner said in a news release. "The members of the Taiwanese community contribute to our culture and local economy in impressive ways and are a strong asset to our city."
