Besides
the highly successful Taiwanese Chamber of
Commerce of North America (TCCNA) Annual Convention held
at San Antonio in 2008 (Mr. Jim Hu, Honorary President
of TCCSA, who served as the President of the TCCNA for
2007-2008 term), the Chamber has co-sponsored the
visit/performance of Taiwan's world renowned Ju
Percussion Group at San Antonio in last November, fund
raising activities for victims of Taiwan’s 88 (August
8) Flood in last October, helped City’s efforts in
courting a Taiwan’s green energy technology firm to
invest at San Antonio, and facilitate a Taiwanese
Cuisine Workshop (at UIW) conducted by an distinguished
faculty from Taiwan’s National Kaohsiung Hotel and
Restaurant College.

Lunar
New Year Celebration) was held on February 10, 2010 at the
Dominion Country Club with more than 130 honorable guests
and invited speakers including former San Antonio Mayor
– Mr. Phil Hardberger, and Director Chen of TECO-Houston. Traditional dragon dance has brought a culminated feeling to
the wonderful occasion.
Despite
mostly cloudy sky and light drizzling local weather on
February 20, 2010 at San Antonio, thousands of people
showed up in this annual event at the Institute of Texan
Culture (ITC), with so many people packed on the winding
pathways across more than hundreds of arts, crafts, and
vending booths and stands. Ms. JoAnn Andera,
Director of Special Event of ITC, indicated that this year
has sold the historic highest volume of pre-sold admission
tickets. The Taiwanese Association of America-San
Antonio Chapter has provided one display booth to showcase
Taiwan’s paper and art crafts and related
literature/publications, and a food vending booth which
provided delicious egg rolls, fried rice, Lo-Mein, chicken
combination plate, Barbo Tea, and cold icy drinks.
The Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce had a display of a
variety of published literatures on investment, trade,
industry overview, and economic development of Taiwan.
Volunteers working at the display stands and food vending
booth include Taiwanese students studying at UTSA and
local Taiwanese professionals working for Boeing Company,
UT Health Science Center-San Antonio, defense contractors,
and area military bases. TAASA and TCCSA are very
grateful for their time and efforts in helping out our
TAASA and TCCSA booths at the event. The volunteers
demonstrated as a very effective team, received many good
remarks from friends and colleagues and their families who
visited ITC last Saturday. Our food vending booth,
led by Air Force Official Joshua Hu (born in Taiwan), was
probably one of the top performing food vending stands in
the Festival. During those hours, people easily saw
many others, young or junior, wearing in their heads the
paper crafts (with a Taiwan logo) that our display and
craft/info stand provided, what a joy to see!!! The
banner that Officer Hu designed and purchased for the food
vending booth should receive the best banner award of the
Event since it clearly showed the vivid images of
delicious food choices, with the large print of TAASA
organization title (see attached pictures). TAASA and
TCCSA greatly appreciated the provision of paper craft
materials and many Taiwan literatures and publications
which made a better showcasing of Taiwan’s beautiful
culture, tourism and hospitality industry, and impressive
high-tech industry sectors.
The generous help and support from chamber members,
friends and Taiwanese students have made these events
really successful ones.
My wholehearted thankfulness to all of them.
